Halloween Black Chocolate M&M Cookies
Happy Halloween! There’s still time to squeeze in one more spooky treat before the holiday is over. With black cocoa and Ghoul’s Mix M&M’s, these cookies are one sweet spooky treat!
Black cocoa is one of my favorite baking ingredients and with it’s naturally dark color, it’s perfect for Halloween. And the neon green, orange and purple M&M’s stand out brightly against the black cookie.
An adaptation on my favorite brownie cookie recipe, the black cocoa gives the cookie an Oreo flavor that works well with the milk chocolate M&M’s. Soft and chewy, these are a great last-minute treat for Halloween!
Halloween Black Chocolate M&M Cookies
Yields 18-20 cookies
Ingredients
1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
½ cup (50 g) black cocoa powder
½ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt
½ cup butter, room temperature
½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted & slightly cooled
1/3 (66 g) cup sugar
2/3 (132 g) cup dark brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 tbsp milk
10 oz package M&M’s – Ghoul’s Mix
Instructions
In a medium bowl, whish together flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Set aside
In a large bowl, beat together the butter until smooth. Add the sugars and beat until light and fluffy. Batter may look slightly grainy, but will come together with other ingredients.
Add egg, vanilla and milk and mix until smooth.
Gently stir in the dry ingredients until just combined – ensure all ingredients are incorporated. Fold in M&M’s.
Using a large cookie scoop, scoop cookies onto a parchment-lined cookie sheet and place in fridge for at least three hours.
When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350°F. Bake cookies for 14-15 minutes, until edges are set and centers are slightly undone. Since the cookies are so dark, it’ll be hard to tell when they’re done. Look for set edges and don’t bake too much longer or they will turn out dry.
Allow to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to wire rack.
